Trekking in Amalfi Coast
Among the most beautiful hiking trails of the Amalfi coast not to be missed:
The Path of the Gods (from Agerola to Positano) and the Valley of Ferriere (from Agerola or barge to the Valley of the Ferriere and of The Mills).
The path of gods
In the city of Agerola follow the signs to Paolo Capasso square in the hamlet of Bomerano. In the square close to the Gentile hotel there are information boards of the Lattari Regional Park; nearby there is a secondary road, turn down this
road following the first CAI signs on pylons. Fell in the small gorge of the river Pennino, cross it along the wooden bridge and continue along the street until it ends in a small open space where the trail begins (Biscuit Cave). Reached Colle Serra (580m) as reported in the cartography there is a fork that later leads back to the main path (Li Cannati 560m); the only difference is that
the low variant is more scenic.
The path is about 6 km long with a negative difference in altitude of 200m. It takes about 3 hours walk along an easy path and overlooking the sea; paying attention to the signs will not encounter great difficulties to reach the town of Nocelle (420m). From here you can reach Positano by bus which leaves from the parking inside the town. It’s possible to keep walking , reaching the center of Positano with another hour and half of walk. From the square of the church of Nocelle take the stairs the go down to he main road, then continue on the right until the village center.
Alternatively you can continue following the ceramic signs towards the village of Montepertuso (350m). After the church of Montepertuso continue along the main road for another 300m to go down to the left following the ceramic indications leading to the center of Positano. From Positano you can reach Amalfi with SITA bus, and from there also with SITA bus return to Agerola.
The Ferriere Valley
The itinerary is of medium difficulty because there are several crossroads although well marked. It is recommended for those who already have experience of trekking, starting with equipment and suitable clothing: raincoats, hiking shoes, long pants and a knowledge of the path ex ante or at least provided with our map of trails. Arriving to Agerola reach the General Avitabile square in the hamlet San Lazzaro. From here take Miramare street and after 50m turn left and follow Radicosa street following the CAI signs. Follow the signs toward Mount Murillo; here the road climbs into the woods with the stairs in limestone rock, among the terraces and chestnut woods. After the climb go straight on the ridge and at the first fork, keep right. The trail continue on the flat and downhill through the Santa Croce valley.
Following the CAI signs you reach a stony ground where flows the Acqualella spring. The trail continues through deciduous forests and chestnut woods. You reach the junction that going right leads to Pogerola: here continue down at the table in the picture indicating the path Giustino Fortunato, then follow the river until the remains of the aqueduct of the hydroelectric station. Turning left you can go to admire the waterfall in the photos, while turning right continue on the path that leads to the main square of Amalfi. Along the way you can see the ruins of the old ironworks from which the name of the valley and the ancient paper mills. With a length of about 10km and a difference of altitude of about 150m uphill and 800m downhill, it takes about 4 hours to reach the natural reserve, and another hour to reach the city of Amalfi.
